Make Your Community a Better Place by These Few Simple Steps
There are so many positives to living in a small community. Small towns boast friendly people, low crime, minimal traffic, and a giving spirit. On the other hand, challenges stand out in a small community as well, there just aren’t as many places to hide. The great news is, you can make a big difference in a small community. Here are a few small steps so that you can have an impact on your community.
Pick Up Trash
Simple and easy, picking up trash helps the environment and makes your community more beautiful as a whole. So, when you see that napkin, or that mountain dew bottle sitting on the sidewalk, pick it up! You just made a difference.
Mow a Lawn
Already half way done mowing your lawn and feeling pretty good? Mow your neighbor’s lawn, or the elderly couple down the street hasn’t mowed in a while and I’m sure they would appreciate it. It won’t take you very long and you just made your community a better place. Not to mention, created a new and loving relationship with your neighbors to make your neighborhood improve as well.
Donate
Whether it be old clothes that you want out of the house, or if you have had the same cans of corn in your closet for a while and they’re still good for another few months, if you have barely used books, donate them to the local places that you know will get better use out of them. That just fed a small family, that just helped the education of a younger generation, or that just made sure that no child goes cold this winter. No matter how small of a donation, you impact someone’s life.
Volunteer
Time, Effort, and Love are things that cannot be replaced. Take the time to walk the dogs at the animal shelter, or read books to the elementary children, or spend time with the residents at the nursing homes. These are memories that people will remember forever and it only took you a half hour and now you can go back to work. Volunteering is one of the most important because you are making face to face connections with people.
What are you going to do?
These are just a few of the options that you could do. There is always something that could be done to make a difference in your community. Don’t make excuses because you don’t know what to do, because it is as simple as pulling weeds for someone else. Not only will you improve that person’s day, but you will also be in a much better mood because of the natural endorphins that are experienced when doing selfless things for others. It is a complete win win situation. Now get out there and make a difference!
